Remembering 911 - Where were you?

Postby Gator » Wed Sep 11, 2013 7:01 am

I remember exactly where I was at when the news came. I'm sure you do too. For all the fallen and those left behind, our hearts go out to you today.

I was in Philadelphia at a sales training class...ended up driving home several days later...

On my way to New Orleans airport to catch a flight to Houston. Called my wife and told her to turn on the TV - she saw the second plane hit. I turned around and went home.

Never forget.

I was at the world trade center in Dallas delivering a trailer load of wheelchairs and electric scooters for a convention. The head of security grabbed me and took me to his office where he told me I would be safe. Then he pointed me to a tv and told me what was going on. I stayed there for the better part of the morning and then went home as soon as they would let me leave. The company I worked for was located next to love field airport so we ended up staying close all week.

I was working in a rock quarry when I heard it on the radio in my loader.

I heard the news on the radio on the way to work when the first plane hit and at that time it was thought to be an accident. I got to my office and the news was already on the TV and everybody was watching. We watched the 2nd plane hit the second tower live on the news and knew then that it was no accident. Our eyes were glued to the TV all day. What an awful feeling I will never forget. :flag:

I was in Bristol UK in some meetings. The receptionist came in and asked if we had any friends or loved ones who worked in the Trade Center. Then we turned on the TVs and watched, the second plane had already hit. I remember them tolling the bells at the university and every church for the moment of silence the next day. The British people were great, we never bought another drink that week, offers for us to stay in their homes until we could go home, reminders that they had experienced terrorism in their borders and that we always stood together.

We got out on the first flight back to DFW on Saturday morning, went through the most invasive security check ever from very nervous airport security, we got to the airport five hours before our flight, couldn't bring back my fingernail clippers. Came back to a completely different DFW, security dogs, national guard with M16s everywhere, people crying everywhere, chaplins, etc. Never Forget!

I was working in a telephone central office across from Miramar Marine Corps. Base in San Diego... my co worker and I had no idea of the extent until we got swiftly escorted out from the building as we were "NON ESSENTIAL" and this building housed the phone lines and data lines to the base! Not till I got home did I see the devastation!

Remembering 911 - Where were you?

Postby Ross939 » Wed Sep 11, 2013 3:56 pm

Amen to that. We all seem to remember that day vividly. I remember sitting in a sales meeting a little before 1pm PST at work. We were going through the motions but the topic stayed on the news of that day for most of the meeting. I remember the last manager walking into the room and saying the south tower just fell. We all looked at each other, shell shocked. I do remember looking my boss, as well as the other manages in the eye and saying, "Everyone, remember this date, 9/11/01, like December 7, 1944,  it will live in infamy."

I was in Cinci at GE's jet engine inspection training center. I remember the maintenance controllers from AA getting a call from their bosses telling them what was going on before the first tower was hit. When it was hit and all over the news we all went to the break room and watched the TV as the second one hit the other tower. They put the building into lock down and separated the middle east guys from everyone. The guys from Midway airlines got a call from their boss saying the airline was done and find a way home. The next day they did a rush job to finish all the classes and we drove the rent car back to DFW. It was weird to show up at the airport and it was quiet. I am glad to work for Southwest because they never talked about laying anyone off when the competition started cutting folks right away. We did get a bunch of maintenance done in those couple days where flights were grounded but there were a ton of extra AC parked at Love also.
Thank You to all the fine folks here for all the tips and advice so I can now smoke a chunk of meat and folks actually eat it.

I was just out of college working for the city of Waco. Turned TV on after the first plane hit and watched the second hit. One of the worst feelings I've ever experienced. I have a horrible memory but will never forget the way I felt watching that. I still feel a rage like no other when I see or hear about the 911 attacks. I did feel a little better when I heard we offed the piece of S### responsible.

I still remember to this day, just as when Kennedy was shot, the feeling that engulfed me, the helpless ness as I called the wife and told her to turn the TV on, I was working in the data center for the Texas Dept. of Public Safety, got the first news from the TELETS switch, public TV and was stunned, we had dispatchers calling from all over Texas.
