Back in my younger Career, we did a lot of Life Insurance Sales with the USF&G company. I qualified for a trip to Horseshoe Bay with them for a 3 day deal. Food unbelievable, Golf, and Guided Fishing trips. It’s a great memory and beautiful country

Soil delivered today and I added to boxes. Didn’t take me as long as I thought it would. I did 10~15 mins at a time and back to work for 10-15.

it was 65% compost and 35% sandy loam.

Should I add fertilizer alone at this point, or bags of soil with fertilizer?

If I’m doing square foot garden, should I run 3 lines (middle and between the 1/2, 3/4 rows) of soaker hose or 4 lines, (outside edge of 1/4, between the others)? Boxes are 4x8.

First, those are REALLY nice boxes, GREAT job. If you’ve already gone to the expense of the soaker hoses I’d do 3. If not, I’d hand water it with a spray nozzle and use that soaker hose money for triple 13. Just me. I do have soaker hoses in the big garden but I don’t in the boxes by the House

I have a 100’ soaker hose I bought to go on a timer for when we’re gone. I’m gonna buy some 90 or T connectors and just cut to fit.
I plan to hand water most of the time though, at least this year.

I guess I’ll see how much settling there is, if any, and just add the fertilizer then. It’s probably as full as I want them for now so I can add more compost next year.

I never could find connectors when I had problems with my soaker hoses and would have to improvise if you get what I’m saying. That said, my hoses had a very small inside diameter

It isn’t gonna get below freezing for as far out as I can see, so a few things went in the ground.
Radishes, onion, carrots, snap peas, and a couple herbs.

I can see already, I’m not gonna be a fan of square foot gardening. My wife came out and doubled the peas and bean space, which then put me short on pepper space, and my already planted onions are not companion plants for beans. I’ll have to move the beans and build another container :banghead:

Next year will be row planting so I can see what I’m doin.
Oh well, this years a learning year anyway.

I would abort the Peas and beans in a grow box, just not enough space. Maybe a good Farmer’s Market close. It was 30 here this morning, ice in the birdbath. So glad I waited; shooting for April 5th

I apologize; it's your decision Brother. However, if I plant ONE row of purple hull peas, 60 feet long, I MIGHT get 3 or 4 quarts of peas to put up. I have limited space and usually go to the Farmer's Market and buy a Bushel of shelled Peas and bring them home to put them up. I'll get maybe 8 quarts. Your choice

No need to apologize.

We might be talking different peas. These are sugar snap peas. No shelling involved.
Yer only supposed to need 4-5 plants per person.
I even seen a pic of them being grown in just a container.
Look up ‘sugar snap peas in a raised garden’ and see if we’re talking the same peas.

I don’t know anything about those Peas. It takes a bunch of Peas to make a “ mess” and I just don’t see you getting there in a grow box

NJ gardening starts late and ends early. We have a tight 25' x 5' space for our garden. We plant tomatoes and peppers. It's tightly fenced to keep the critters out of it.....but the deer still love my wife's plants in the yard.

I think they're eaten early, and whole. Never had luck with peas of any sort. :|

Piney, we're still waiting to plant ANYTHING.
Moink!
