And when does yer reality show hit TV?
BE WELL, BUT NOT DONE
Hank: "Do you know how to jumpstart a man's heart with a downed power line?"
Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."

I got a Canon T1i with the 18 - 55 kit lens and also a 55 a 250 zoom lens. I'm a DSLR Dummy and even bought the Dummy Book that goes with it to prove it. I shoot everything in the preset auto modes because I don't know anything about the manual modes. The auto modes take way better pics than my point and shoot ever did, but I know my camera is capable of so much more.

There is a book called "Understanding Exposure" buy that (its cheap) and read it front to back and then all over again...its like the bible, every time you read it you discover something new. Not only that but there are some great photo forums to join up with very experienced help 24/7 just like here =]

That book helped me understand my camera and what things are for. When you shoot in greenbox mode you let the camera decide how the image comes out. when you start shooting in manual, you tell the camera what to do and YOU decide how the image will turn out.

Its a bit confusing at first but it gets easier.
I really want to thank every one for taking time out to answer my questions. I grew up with out a dad and had no one to teach me this stuff. You are a great help!

Toby - Glad to hear you got a Canon, bless you. Nah just joshin the Nikon guys. But what you really need to do is buy buy the 50mm prime Canon lense, you can find it on Amazon right now for 106.00 - Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Camera Lens - Read the reveiws - that biggest issue that most point out is it feels kinda cheap, as far as manufacturing and the manual focus ring is to small, I will agree with all that, but the photographs you can get with this lense are incredible, It is my daily go to lense. You get the lens and set your camera to Av (apeture priority) and open that lense up to 1.8 - Stand the missus about 2-3 feet in front of a fence or some shubery and watch the magic happen DOF (Depth of Field) , and when you stop it down to f22 you got a real nice landscape lense, it fairly versatile. I say shoot on the auto modes and learn what they will do and wont do, but step into the creative modes also, and one other item you may want to consider looking into is shooting in RAW at some point, you should have gotten software that will allow you to work with RAW photos from Canon, thats all I shoot now, as you have total control over the final product.

I have attached 3 photographs that I have taken with the 50mm Canon prime lense just to show a little of what it will do.

This is a shot I took of some wings I cooked a while back

This is a playground down the street from our house.

This was a photograph I took in the wifes garden a month or 2 back one rainy day.

Now all I need is the 70-200 2.8 Canon L, so I can actually shoot the Roller Derby ladies to my satisfaction.
Check out Don Huddy Photography on Facebook also.
