Overdue TOY/TOOL
First of all thanks to C.I. Chris for helping me decided what I needed, even tho we talked about the 12", I ended up getting a 10" Lodge Cast Iron Skillet today. Now, I can cook in cast iron and not have to re-season my 9" cornbread skillet ever time I do. Probably gonna break it in with a 3/4 Ribeye and then go from there. Don't know if I'll use the stove top or charcoal on the grill - - decisions decisions decisions

If you need a 5QT dutch oven, (you probably do) the lid fits the 10" skillet. The 7QT DO lid fits the 12", and the 9QT DO fits the 15". This is with Lodge Brand. Like yourself I bought a dedicated cornbread skillet, it is the pre divided type though.

I've had good success with Crisco but I DO HAVE A QUESTION and that is SHOULD I season it before bouncing a Ribeye across it The info said that it was Seasoned

X2 on Crisco, it stinks less when it is "burning in the oven".
OUP, I always season mine before using.

It's ( pre seasoned ) but not from the shipping and receiving guy in the back, you should def run some ( real ) fat content thru the pores before you chow down.

We usually do Crisco in the gas rig. No muss, no fuss, no reekin' house.

Re: Overdue TOY/TOOL
Definitely season at least once before your first use. I have tried all the fancy flax oils, crisbee and all that stuff but good ole Crisco or bacon grease seems to be just as good anything. Congrats and absolutely use it over charcoal!!

Lodge is pre-seasoned, but I've pre-seasoned all of mine.
How To Season Your Cast-iron Skillet in Five Steps (Southern Living)
1.Scrub skillet well in hot soapy water.
2.Dry thoroughly.
3.Spread a thin layer of melted shortening or vegetable oil over the skillet.
4.Place it upside down on a middle oven rack at 375°. (Place foil on a lower rack to catch drips.)
5.Bake 1 hour; let cool in the oven.
