Any of you ever tried breading chicken like you are going to fry it but cook it on the grill instead? I was cooking wings for the game last night and tried a few that way. Came out better than I thought it would.

Re: Grilled Fried shicken
there's a Stop and Rob down the road that does something similar except they cook them in an oven of some kind - - - best Hot wings in town as far as I'm concerned - - - however, sometimes the Senoritas over cook them and I can usually tell by the color so I just turn around and split for #2 wing stop - - - I'm sure gonna try this next time I fix wings on the grill -- - - thanks, Chris

The center basket is called a vortex. Cone shaped so the heat is really centered. Best wings I have ever made are with that little do-dad. They claim it will do all sorts of things but wings are about all I have done with it.

I've had my eye on the vortex. What size kettle vs size vortex are you running?

22" kettle but the vortex is the large that I used to use in my drum but cut it down to fit in the kettle. I think the 22" kettle is supposed to be a medium though. I told a lie in my earlier post. I have done something other than wings. I did a beer can chicken not long after I got the kettle with the bird sitting in the middle of the vortex and the coals around the vortex to make it indirect radiant heat or something that they call it like that. Came out surprisingly good!
