Here's another from a friend and neighbor of mine. He volunteered his truck and trailer to go pick up some donated water yesterday which was a couple hours drive from here. He then delivered it to the Supply Station where it will be stored and distributed. While getting this done he broke down with engine problems but a Lady from the area he was in stopped to help him. My Buddy started laughing when he told me the rest of this story. While he was under the truck trying to take whatever was broken off, this Lady slid right up under there with him and started helping. After they got the part off he called the Ford Dealership and tried to get a part. They told him they didn't have that part and couldn't help him - - - - sooooooo this Lady, a long time and respected resident, drove to the Dealership and told them to take the part that he needed off of another truck on the lot. My Buddy said it was obvious that she was NOT going to take NO for an answer so they took the part off another truck and sold it to them. Then they go back to the truck and climb under to get it going. He also said that she had beautiful designer nails and when he mentioned her possibly breaking them she replied "If they break off then I'll go get some more stuck on when all this is over." So he then made it back home and woke up to a flat on his trailer that he had to fix before delivering the water. We will be taking them out for a good Supper and sending something to the Lady that helped real soon. - - - - Sorry to be so wordy

Great story!! Be on the lookout because my wife and some more nurses are going down there on Friday to volunteer their skills to some folks who were in a nursing home and also drop some donations as well. Watch out for Hurricane Carolyn!!

One of the guys on our competition team found a boat and has been assisting with rescues. He and his family had evacuated up to Lexington. He left his family to come help. He's one in a million.







A family friend from up in Lubbock loaded up a truck and trailer and is heading this way.



The spirit of Texans, and Americans for that matter, is immeasurable. I know that most down here feel as I do. Awed by the outpouring of generosity of our countrymen (and women). For the thoughts, the prayers, and the support, thank you.

Awesome awesome stories of humanity working hand in hand,great story too emm. Thoughts are with the cleanup.

I've been watching the coverage all week on television. I am emotionally drained. I just can't imagine the scope of this. It is inspiring to see ordinary Texans coming to the aid of others. Also the people coming from other states to help us out. As a proud life long Texan I do beleave that we're different here. Historically Texans get going on taking care of business and don't wait to be rescued. It's heart warming to see the "bass busters" show up with their boats and get busy doing what they can. Thanks to everyone helping us and God Bless Texas.

My young nephew took his boat down earlier in the week to help. When talking to my brother yesterday he said they had pulled about 50 people out to safety, didn't get to eat till after 10pm, and were going back in. He said they were warned to expect to be transporting bodies today rather than live rescues. I sure hope that isn't the case. Stuff like that never leaves you. Very proud of my nephew.

We're proud of him as well and appreciative of his generosity and sacrifice.
This kind of giving could very well be the #1 good thing that comes from this tragedy.
Tell him that OUP and his bunch thank and appreciate him.

We just got back from HEB and on the way there we saw another "heart warmer" from Arlington/DFW. Unfortunately I didn't have a camera but it was a Caravan of 20 to 30 PUs pulling boats and they were being escorted by some of Texas Finest - - - - The Arlington Police Department SUVs.

The rescue and emergency response are good to see, we need to get people out of harm's way first..
But, days and weeks and months down the road is when the shock begins to wear off or at least get dulled a little and then the long term suffering/strife begins to set in.
So congrats to all the rescue guys and gals on a heroic mission, keep it up, you are life savers but keep these victims in mind as the weeks and months (years really) roll by, they will be in real need for a LONG time..
I read that only 15% had FEMA flood insurance, and FEMA insurance only pays for the percentage of your home that was damaged, not for a new or different house..and not for all the material goods lost to flooding as well.
Unless the government kicks in MANY billions of dollars, there's going to be a Katrina type diaspora where people and families go homeless after the water goes away.
This is a way bigger catastrophe than a bunch of flooded houses, the long term effects may render Houston a much different place than what we are used to.
How do regular folks without serious savings accounts get by while they wait for their employers to rebuild so they can go back to work and earn a paycheck?
Where do those same folks live while their house gets rebuilt, how do they eat, buy new cars, clothing, and a thousand other things lost?
So IMHO, everybody concerned about what's going on in southeast Texas needs to get on the phone and let the congress critters and senators know they need to vote YES on money for Harvey recovery.
Emails and phone calls DO work on these guys, don't think they don't.
