Postby 02ebz06 » Sat Oct 07, 2017 1:28 pm

There are 550 balloons registered for the event.
The take off in waves of about 100.
Here is pics of the first wave of "The Ascension"
The take off from two different areas.
I'll try to get some tomorrow when they are higher up.

The Wiffy's Son and Brother used to go there every year

My wife went last year with the neighbors.
Milling around with thousands of people just isn't my cup of tea.
I can see them fine from my house year round.
They go right over our house some times.

Not a fan of balloons, been a few bad incidents here that shouldn't have happened, a lot of casualties weigh on my mind.
Look good going over though.

I have to stand corrected, it is not the Albuquerque Balloon Festival, it is the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.
Not sure what the difference is but they seem adamant about it being called Fiesta, so I changed the title.

An interesting think about this is there is a wind effect called the box effect.
The balloons rise to a certain altitude and the wind carries them in one direction, then they go up to a higher altitude, and it brings them back where they started.
I'm guessing the chase vehicles love that.

Winds were blowing towards the mountains today so not to many took off.

These pics are from yesterday.

They are about 12 miles or so from our house where they lift off, so not very big in the picture, but quite a few of them.

These are a little closer to home.

That would be neat to see one time.
