Brisket Delayed on Account of AMC

Postby rms827 » Sun Apr 15, 2018 7:23 pm

If you were following my brisket post (shameless plug, LOL), you know I had to put off my reveal to go run an errand. I didn't want to jinx it before it was certain, but not I can tell the rest of the story.

I'm swapping out my Grand Marquis for this cute little 1964 AMC Rambler Classic 287.

Yep, it's as clean as it looks.

I'm actually picking it up tomorrow evening, but I gave it a look over, offered a deposit and arranged to pay the balance tomorrow and take ownership. It needs some spit and polish here and there... New hoses, trans pan gasket and shift linkage adjustment, etc... Beyond that, it's pretty cherry. This thing could make a nice little sleeper hot rod.

Thanks OUP. :D

This thing is as close as I'll get to the hobby nowadays. Jey Leno and his buddies have turned classics into a largely rich man's hobby. This'll be a nice little daily driver though, and classics are cheaper to repair than the new stuff.

Not sure which I'm happier with, the new car or the way my brisket turned out.

A brilliant and simple solution, LOL. :D

the interior is so clean on that car, I'm really considering a no eating rule like we have with the g/f's new Subaru Forester though.

I was gonna suggest that you get a CarHop Tray like I got for my Fiddy Fi - - but you still got to eat it on the upholstery :laughing7: 8) :salut:

Very cool :D

That no grub rule always seems to get broken eventually. Dunno with this AMC though. I finally have a classic in decent shape. It'd be a shame to end up with the upholstery having some greasy stain on it.

The wife's dad worked for AMC corporate for 40 years, she drove a Gremlin when I met her....too bad they went kaput, they were better than most folks realize.
That inline 6 gremlin would spool down the highway at 100 all day...

You should try one of the Gremlins with the 401 CID V8 in them. Those were monsters, LOL.

Anyhoo, that bit of fun aside, I've been busy trying to round up parts and get the Rambler properly fixed up. That's why I've been MIA here. Did do a basic SPG seasoned Tri-tip recently but I wasn't happy with how it came out, hence no pics.

Got the engine just about ready to pull in the Rambler though, then I have to reseal it & fix all the leaks. After that, polish up the engine bay and make it look like the exterior.

Image

Slow going too since the car has so many aftermarket modifications. I have to go slow and make note of everything. I think I've found all the aftermarket gear though:

Champion 3 channel aluminum radiator
HD Flex Fan
100 Amp single wire Alternator (chrome)
Vintage Air Mk IV air conditioning system
Oil Cooler
Pertronix Ignition System and High Output Coil
Front Disk Brake Conversion
3 point seat belts in front seat (somebody's wife got after them I betcha, LOLOL)
Cragar chrome "smoothie" rims

Anyhoo (again, lol), I figure I'm going to be fairly busy for the next few weeks trying to get the leaks sealed, suspension rebuilt and chassis electrical working. And that's IF my back decides to cooperate and let me have at it/
