Buy or Rent ?

Postby OldUsedParts » Wed Apr 18, 2018 10:45 am

That was the question and I had already decided on Renting a Frig of some kind to store the prepared items and also frozen items for defrosting next month prior to my Son's Rehearsal Dinner.

Well, low and behold a friend of mine who hauls stuff/junk and messes with reselling scrap and used stuff to supplement his income asked me if I knew how to post a refrigerator on that online Barter/Sell/Etc Site and I said NO. Then the light bulb went off and I asked him what he had. He proceeded to tell me it was a working Whirlpool side by side frig/freezer that he had been using but it wouldn't fit in his small trailer so he had bought a small 4' tall frig.

Bottom line is he wanted $100 for it and I bought it. Turns out it is just exactly the same Unit that we have in our Home so I may just keep it after the Rehearsal Dinner if nothing but for the extra Freezer Space.

Had to give up a little room in the Man Cave and I need to work on cleaning that one dirty handle so the War Dept will hush up about it.

He had to haul it lying down so it will be a couple days before I plug it in. Comes with money back guarantee also.

Our current Unit in the Kitchen - - - ironically they are the exact same - however, I won't hook up the ice maker on the other one.

And that is exactly the fridge that has been in our kitchen for 19 years.
Had to replace the fan in the freezer compartment a couple times then found out if you lube it's bearings with synthetic oil (Castrol Syntec) it never fails again....

Sailor, I ended up taking some FastOrange hand cleaner and a fine steel wool pad and now it looks brand new.

Nice score my friend :salut:
Years back a buddy of mine gave me a fridge. I caught holy "H" from my other for setting it up in the garage. I was told we don't need it and all it'll do is costing us more in electricity bills.
Well... one guess who has it so stacked full... that I ain't even got room for a few beers in it. :whiteflag:
I ended up getting another fridge out in the man cave for my beer and such.

My fridge freezer looks much the same, 5 years old maytag. I bought it because we like filtered water and it does crush or cubed ice, I use a lot of ice. And there's another in the garage. You should hook up the water. You will use it,lol.

I mean, you can always turn these into a BEER FRIDGE!
I’ve got an older side by side that I’m going to eventually convert the freezer side into a non cooling CO2 tank area and the fridge portion into the keg cooler and pop some shanks through and have cold beer on tap via the front of the fridge. Point being great grab!

That's one heck of a deal, OUP! And best of all, an older appliance like that is likely to last longer & work better than a new one.

Good luck with it.
