I picked some up the other day. So far I am well pleased. It burned pretty hot and pretty slow. Good sized chunks of coal too.

Western brand BBQ products come from W W Wood in Pleasanton, TX. I'm not sure they still make lump charcoal as it's no longer on their website. What you're finding may be NOS.

There's a thread on the Brethren about Western lump, everyone seems to like it.
I'm buying a bag to try today.

Grilled ribeyes yesterday with the Western Lump, burned nice and hot and lasted a long time.
Used it and a couple of sticks of red maple for Sunday's rib cook also with good results.
The only complaint is all the small pieces in the bag I bought. But at .30C a pound I'll buy it again.

Bought a bag yesterday, $7.88. Gonna cook tonight with it. See how it goes.
