Memorial Day

Postby Rambo » Fri May 25, 2018 4:06 pm

Thanks to all who served. My dad served in WWll, Tankman, Battle of The Bulge, Purple Heart, 3 bullet wounds, neck, arm, and leg after the tracks got blown off their tank. he refused to talk about it. just a reminder of how lucky we all are and how fortunate we are to be protected by these wonderful people that Serve our Country.

Thanks to all of you.

Those that served in all our wars are true heroes. :salut: :salut: :salut:

The older I get the more I miss my dad. He passed on bout 10 years ago at the age of 85.
My pops served in WW11 also like yours. Dad was in the Army Air Corp. He enlisted in 1941 right after Pearl Harbor.
He ended up on a B17 as a Machine gunner/radio operator in Europe. Again like your dad he never wanted to talk about it.
My mom did tell us the last few years he was alive he tried locating some of his squadron buddies.

Last year we found this photograph in my moms stuff while we where moving her into a assisted living complex.

On the back of the photo in my dads writing it stated he was in the cockpit of B17 heading for Munich.

Miss mine everyday.
Everyone called him "Scrappy" from his boxing days in HighSchool and being tough as Scrap Iron.

Thank you to all who have served and continue to serve. :salut:

My father flew A-7s for the Navy during Vietnam (though his wing never went - very interesting story behind that one). My uncle flew A-4s, completing 3 tours in Vietnam, retiring as the XO of the Coral Sea.

My mom's dad was with the Corps in the Solomons.

Great pics and stories of past heroes. Fwiw my grandfather was a prisoner of war in Germany. Never talked to anybody about the war except me when I was young, he signed me up to a readers digest type book series on Europe countries. Inspired me to spend time there years ago. My wife's father was in wwll, he served in Europe and time in Egypt. Came home from the war and died of cancer 50 years ago. War has a lot to answer for. So many died needlessly. Thoughts are with you guys.
