USA horse racing

Postby Russ » Fri Jun 01, 2018 5:40 pm

Completely, off topic , kind off. Lazy Saturday and rain here so I'm watching American racing live from gulf stream races, penn national races. And Santa Anita. Man the world is really small. Belmont races as well. Our racing starts here in an hour. Do you guys follow the horses?

I used to be an avid watcher, especially The Triple Crown Races. If I remember they're running, then I will watch and enjoy, if not, then maybe next year. :dont: When my Mom was alive they were more fun because she would get a "pot" together and draw horses for everyone. Then we would gather at her home on Race Day. Fun times for sure.

We have a horse track here in Houston not far from my house that I go to. They have 50 cent draft beers on Friday nights. Drink some beers and bet the ponies, good time. Its a pretty nice facility, and they also hold a lot of concerts there as well.

Lol - the old joke at Louisiana Downs was bet on whichever horse had the owner that was dressed to have his picture made :)

We have Lone Star Park here. Haven’t been in a few years but I really do enjoy it. Much easier to control your losses than at a casino. The animals / athletes are beautiful and the people watching is second to none.

I pick my bets based on looking at the horse parade, coat etc. I'm not too bad a judge, plus I raced a few. My son was a junior driver and drove my horses. I'm talking standard breeds, the ones with sulky behind.

My Dad told me about his Grandmother who always bet on the grey horse…it kind of become a tradition to bet the grey horse. We did it with a chuckle each time because the grey horse NEVER paid off for us. My wife has been known to utter an “oh crap” when we are at the track and a grey one trots out :)

Yes sir OUP, I go there on occasion and always have a great time. 50 cent beers on Friday nights, but they cut that off about 9. My ole buddy taught me how to bet the ponies, and I rarely leave there without winning a race or 2. But the most recent venture I did get skunked, but its rare. Its a nice place.

In Auckland, an hour away by plane, the track up,there has a big meeting once a year, my mate and I go up for the weekend. They have happy hour between 5 and 7 with half price drinks. I've charmed my way around the bar manageress called adele. We get happy hour from 5 til 9. Always a great weekend away.

Us kiwis can beat the Aussies. Let me know when you plan your trip. I can help with places to go. I've been pretty near everywhere here. Family holidays and camping etc have taken us all around. We've been all around the world and nz has some amazing scenery.
