Indian Fry Bread - need more Practice

Postby OldUsedParts » Tue Jul 17, 2018 12:31 pm

Today proved once again that I really need to do Indian Fry Bread more because there's always something that just hits me cross grain.
First thing I did was get the Crisco too hot so the first three pieces cooked fast and dark and "quick" but after letting it cool down they got purdier.
The purpose of doing them today was to have with some reheated leftover Ham's "C-word" Beans and it was a Union that the Wiffy loved.
I, however, thought the Native American Fry Bread could have been some better so I'll try to figger out what, when, where, and how for the next time. :whiteflag:
(Footnote: if I was making these for Fry Bread Tacos, I would have pull shaped them to be larger around the edges and thin inside like a bowl)

After eating a large piece with the Bowl of Lunch, I decided to have Dessert.
So I mixed and heated some butter, pepper jelly and mayhaw jelly and brushed it on a warmed piece - - - yum yum

Man I love fry bread. :pig:
In our German heritage it was grebble, much the same except cut rectangles (2 x 4 to 3 x 5") then make a slice in the center the long direction then pull one end through the slice hole (it creates a twist on the sides).

Yes they are usually a "Pan dolche" eaten for breakfast or a treat. The dough is the same as the dough for a sweet cinnamon roll but of coarse regular bread dough works great too.
They are usually made with yeast dough.
They are often sprinkled with powdered sugar or shaken in a paper bag with cinnamon sugar or nutmeg sugar.
