Pit maintenance
How many of you rub the outside of your pit up with some PAM or other oil over your paint to protect it every so often? I have never done this but have seen some do I usually season the inside about once every few cooks. Does this make the paint last longer? Also I found an industrial thermometer that is resetable and accurate to +\-1% that goes by the brand name of TREND made in the USA, has anyone heard of or used these?

Re: Pit maintenance
Only thing I've ever done to the outside of my smokers is sand them down every couple years and respray in high-temp black.

Haven't seen the Trend unit but found one on e-bay. Cheep enough to give it a try. Like the fact you can recalibrate it for sure.

I spry the outside with Pam two or three times a year, it's better than watching the metal rust.
