Smoking a pre-cooked Ham ?worth it?

Postby OldUsedParts » Sun Nov 18, 2018 12:09 pm

We will be going to Houston Thanksgiving Day for Dinner and Festivities at Step-sons Home. The Wife wants to take a bone-in spiral sliced ham and that's fine with me because it's not convenient to Beer Can a Gobbler. MY QUESTION IS: :?: would I gain anything by Pellet Smoking a pre-cooked Ham or would it be just as well to just heat it in the Oven and glaze it that morning and then put it in a cooler for transporting :?: If necessary, we can warm it back up when we get there :?: :?: :?: :dont:

I have smoked the generic store bought hams and then glazed them. Definitely made a difference. Malcolm Reed has a pretty good recipe on his How To BBQ Right website and YouTube.

Now if you are buying a high end (Honey Baked) type just leave as is.

Emm, I've just done 2 hams in the last week, I did one here last week for 30 people. I did it in the oven and did a glaze which I get high remarks and people dip the sliced ham in the juice.
The baste mix is
300ml bourbon
300 ml maple syrup
300ml apricot sauce
1 small jar honey grain mustard.

Score ham and cook. The second I did for my sons friends who he put on a function for. I saw him the next day and he said everybody raved about how nice the ham was. Both hams were gone in an hour. If you get to try this you will like it.

You really have to try it, it's a winner. I cook a ham about 4 times a year and it doesn't last long. It's by far the best glaze I've come across.
