That is very cool. You probably have ancestors from the old Hanseatic league where Lubeck was the capital. A lot of scandinavians emigrated to America in the 1850 -1900. I have been a lot in lubeck and Hamburg. Lubeck is a nice city with a lot of history.

I have som ancestors that emigrated to America, but up north around Seattle, Washington where you find many Scandinavian descendants. Some other states to where there a lot of sons of Norway lodges.

I know there is a small city close to Santa Monica, CA that is called Solvang. That was founded by a Dane, and with buildings typical for Denmark.

For your scottish-irish side it's not uncommon with viking blood. The Vikings went all over the world with their ships. But a lot to Scotland, Ireland and England.

My wife has Danish ancestors on her mother's side. Not uncommon here due to the union between Norway and Denmark from 1660 until 1814.

Didn't know aftenposten was involved with the press in the US but when you say oil it makes sense. Aftenposten is owned by a big company called Schibsted group. Big publishing company that owns several newspapers.

Thanks for sharing this.

Here you can read about the Hanseatic League:

Awesome pics !!

The thought of the falling doesn't bother me. It's the abrupt stop and bounce that turns me off of taking those chances.
We were at the Grand Canyon one year and the overlooks were a sheet of ice. We watched 3 separate people slip on the stairs and slide towards certain death.
Why the Park was even still open in that weather is beyond me.

We saw a couple of young and dumb Darwin's walking out on a ledge like seen in that one pic and we just turned around and got in the car. We weren't up for watching someone fall thousands of feet to thier death for a stupid selfie.

Like they say..play stupid games......
