Hot Fire

Postby GRailsback » Mon Jun 17, 2019 4:09 pm

So i am at the shop today, and i get a call from the plumber we use up at the lake when we need some work done. He says Greg, there were some bad storms blow through here early this morning, and your storage shed has been struck by lightning and is on fire. Well, being in West Africa, there just isn’t much i can do. So my brother will handle it in my absence. We own the place together.

Since there isn’t much i can do, there is a guy staying here at the hotel that works for the State Department here at the US Embassy. He went back into the kitchen and had the cooks whip me up some chicken and bacon pasta in a fantastic white sauce with fresh grated parm. It was really nice, we’ll let the insurance handle the rest.

This last photo the neighbor across the street from took from his porch. Fire dept told my brother nothing else was damaged, but another neighbor of ours is heading up there tomorrow and he will send us photos.

No, they did not. There was nothing else visibly harmed. But we will get the insurance folks in there and have a look. That is why we have it. I think we got lucky, there is 5 or 6 generations of family photo albums in that house. All painstaking labeled and categorized by my mother and one of my uncles.

Greg, seems to me The Big Man decided you been doing people good and deserve a new shed, so he personally zapped the old one and is gonna arrange the insurance man to pay for it (and if he doesn’t then all of us are going to take Mr Goodhands skiing without skis). Elsewise, if you’d been sinnin’ more than savin’, the whole place woulda burnt right down to the worms. To each his own of course, but like I said seems to me to be a sign there, little miracles happen all the time I think, like happening along at just the right moment to see a butterfly hatch out or a newborn colt stand up and walk. Little miracles all the time. Just gotta have our eyes open to see ‘em.

Come to thunk on it more, maybe The Big Man is telling you that you need a new green house where the shed was. After all, he DID invent tomatoes...food fer thought.

I must be livin right for sure Boots. There was an old 68 or 69 Bridgestone 175 motorcycle in there that we lost in this fire. It was really the only thing of any value. We had already hauled a bunch of stuff out of it after mom passed. The next shed will need to be big enough for a golf cart and yard equipment.

No, the photos are in the house. That bike was a late 60’s Bridgestone. 68 or 69. It was a 175, the old 2 cycle, had a separate oil tank. They looked a lot like the old Honda’s. I was going to eventually have it restored. To late now.

Happy that your photos are safe. A lot of memories in old photos.

Too bad with the bike, though.
