Off for a long weekend in Rome. Celebrating the 18 years birthday for the oldest son.

As usual the flight is delayed. First 55 minutes delay but now shortened to 45 minutes so doesn't look too bad.

Going on a 737 (not Max :laughing7:)Image

Thanks folks.

Rome is a fantastic city. My favorite in Europe. A few pictures from this evening.

The first is the Trevi fountain. Built in 1762 and famous from many movies. Among them La dolce vita.

Next is the Pantheon which is almost 2000 years old. The cupola is among the biggest ever built that is molded in one piece. I will post pictures from inside later. Great example of the gigantism of the Roman's.

Italian pizza is great.

Tomorrow is Colosseum and the Forum.

Thank you Boots.

Actually the Vikings set sail for Rome with 62 ships in year 862. On their way they stopped in Paris and left it in ruins. Continued to Italy but made a mistake and ended with conquering another Italian city.

A great day with a lot of old historical places to see.

Colosseum is amazing. Built around year 70-80 AD. With its 60.000 spectator capacity. The movie Thev Gladiator with Russel Crowe shows a lot of how it looked.

The ruins in the Forum gives you an impression of the gigantic buildings the Romans put up.

I like to look inside churches when abroad. Especially the Catholic churches are fantastic buildings with beautiful decorations. Way different than the small spartan protestant churches we have home.

Boots. I found traces after a Norwegian Viking and King. The King Olav II or holy Olav as we call him. He was the one that Christened Noreay Check out the painting and text I found in one of the churches.

At last, icecream is obligatory when visiting Italt. We passed an icecream shop selling 150 different icecream tastes!!

Went there in 78; nice trip. Got drunk on the long flight. kept telling " them waitresses" to keep bringing me them little bitty bottles of Jim Beam. When we exited the plane it was on the tarmac and there were military guys there with little burp guns on their shoulder. that'll sober you up quick.

thanks for including us in your travels; greatly appreciated.

Thank you Rambo. Glad you like it. Cool story you told. Don't think the city has changed very much :laughing7: The carabinieri is still here, with there machine guns. You see them around the city. A bit special when coming from a country where the police is unarmed.

Fortunately the police is armed.
We, in Europe have an absolute sane attitude to the environment and also the armament of the police.

Unfortunately our Fricking germandestroying chancellor, the dog, destroys everything.

Sorry for the rude words, but thats my opinion. We cannot give up everything we fighted for.

This is what I like about Italy. The small shops with cured meat, Parma ham, cheese, wine olive oil, balsamic vinegar and more in these small shop.

You can usually find a few small table in there and est a plate of cured meat, cheese and a glass of good wine.

This picture was taken from the street through the door to the shop.Image
