It’s been a unique year with all the rain early and now excessive heat and drought

I’m worried about our local cattle producers that have 100-200 acres. These Guys are the Bedrock of Texas; have 20 to 50 head of Mama Cows and a Bull or 2. If they run out of grass and water in the Ponds, they have to sell. It’s really unfortunate and 99% of People do not even realize what I’m talking about

Yes, because at that size it wouldn’t pay to buy feed and truck it, and have to haul water on top of that.

It’s a bad deal. Most, like me, have ponds that are from 1/2 acre to maybe 3 acres. These ponds are dropping at a high rate of speed

Got out and pruned the tomatoes, squash, got the cucumbers up on a trellis, fertilizer down. Maybe I’ll seem some improvement over the next week.

My peppers are useless. Small and tasteless.

I guess I shouldn’t have pruned and provided air. I think I killed my squash :banghead:

Might have been the fertilizer at this point: the Nitrogen is just too hot for our temperature

The trees are starting to have yellow leaves and drop them in an effort to survive. I watched the local weather this morning and no rain in sight. This sheet is fixing to get serious in East Texas and if a big block of Pine Timber catches on fire, they won’t be able to control it

Starting to feel it here too though we got a big relief rain about 10 days ago that is still carrying our pasture. Next week forecast is bad.

On a better note, the wife found a solution to our garden getting sun pounded - sun sails that filter intense sunlight. Coolaroo brand from Lowes. I mounted them up on T posts for her, though Lowes sold her the cheap stamped 10 gauge. luckily I had some left over drop forged posts (rednecks never throw away scraps right) and was able to double them up. The sails are 8’ x 11’ feet, come with corner ropes installed, and were like $35 bucks each. Maybe this can help some folks.

That’s great for a Urban Garden: I can’t do that with a half an acre

I have religiously watered my grass every morning; 60% of it is still dying :deadhorse:

Yeah, I might’ve got too ambitious.

Good idea on the coolaroo shades, Boots. Will keep in mind for next year.

Here's the Pear Tree on our front corner. The Green branches at the bottom are from another trunk that was cut off at ground level so it appears that at one time this was a Pear Tree with three Trunks at the bottom. :dont:  :whiteflag:
