Amen. We might get a couple upper 90 days next week, but then right back to over 100.
I used to love the heat, but now, Fall can’t get here fast enough.

Welps, HOT don't even describe it - - - here are 2 pics I took about 30 min ago of our Thermometer on the Back Porch and also of my Meat Thermometer laying on a rail just below the Thermometer - - - it reads 118 but the glare makes the 1 impossible to see no matter what I did.

Our worst fears have occurred. There have been several 100- 500 acre fires in Panola, San Augustine, and other East Texas Counties but moworst fear happened this afternoon between Zavalla and Jasper. The Angelina National Forest is on fire and they can’t stop it. Thousands and thousands of acres. Pray for all those families being evacuated.

I would say to call in the bombers, to do fire suppression, but then that is exactly what went wrong with the Bastrop fire years ago. It seems there is a price tag attached to air support, a price tag that most don't know about and, once they find out about it, the illusive "they", decide it is too expensive. I apologize in advance, but it becomes a political decision to stop the fires. I have been out there driving fire trucks when those decisions get made. It sure makes someone with good intentions feel hopeless. I have been in situations where I was flying my own aircraft and directing the fire crew on the ground only to watch them chase a fire that was moving faster than the truck could travel due to ground conditions that prevented travel. Wildfires are nothing to toy with.

The wind is calmer this morning than yesterday afternoon. From what I understand at 5AM is tout has grown overnight. This is old, mature timber in a National Forest setting. There aren’t many roads in there. Once it gets daylight they will start the planes and helicopters.

Thinking of our East Texas folks. 105 raw temp / 110 HI here today, as hot as ‘80 and ‘11 but not as long thank goodness. Supposed to be a cool front moving in Sunday night. And PTL, college football starts tomorrow at least, hope they’re taking their salt pills.

All for, now, gotta go out to the driveway and flip the eggs.
