While working for Texas Parks & Wildlife, spent some time in the Jasper, Buna, woods. Back then 10 or so years ago the tower sites were stifling, for a breath of air or a breeze. I know just exactly what those fire fighters are up against and my prayers are with them.

that is basically the thought process they are telling the public, A 50% contained fire has a barrier around 50% of the total area the fire is occupying, whether it be by dirt fire break or a highway, that prevents the spread of the fire under normal conditions, So if a 20 mile an hour wind is blowing the fire can move faster than most folks can do anything about, except for bulldozing and grading the land out in advance of it. I have seen some of those where I am from, crazy fire conditions where we cut fire breaks then guard against a fire jump with a fire truck, you see all forms of wildlife coming out of the path of the fire. A train with a "hot box" can create much havoc in conditions such as these...

Finally, we got 1.8” of rain last night at my place. Many areas west of Lufkin got more and less to the east. Temperatures only supposed to be in the mid 90’s today, gradually increasing each day.

Awesome, I wondered if anyone got lucky and got some rain out of it.
It rained here for a couple minutes to make it humid. Nothing in the rain gauge.

Glad you caught a break. It was a tough weekend heat wise. I had to make a run up to Grandview TX. on Saturday and drop my golf cart off at my buddies place. I was coming back south on I-35 just north of Waco at 2pm and it was 109. Stayed at the lake house Saturday night, was coming down 290 yesterday at 1pm and it was 108. We still haven't seen any rain. Canyon Lake is all but shut down, think they are down to one open boat ramp.

 I realize this may sound crazy to some of our friends but it’s 92 degrees at 6:30 PM and I went to the barn and fed the horses and am on the front porch now without sweating
