Howdy From San Antonio

Postby SlowNative » Sun Apr 15, 2018 11:47 am

Good afternoon guys,
I found this forum while looking for some mod ideas for my new Old Smokey 14. It’s a perfect little setup for just the wife and I. Lil ones not on the big boy food yet ;) . Looking forward to the sharing of ideas on here. Have a good one!

I'm feeling squirrelly after being up all night with my brisket, so here's an appropriately eccentric welcome.

Nice! Welcome to the community!
Looking forward to more camping trip with my family. I need a new tonneau cover to secure my equipment and pit.

Welcome! I used an Old Smokey a lot 35 or so years ago straight wood burning mesquite. Burn most down to coals first, toss some more on for smoke. Biggest mod type thing I remember was getting some sort of fire grate that breathed in the darn thing. Memories are somewhat hazy from all sorts of smoke back in those years. It was a great cooker for steaks & chicken but I had a huge grease fire when I tried a small brisket in it.

Welcome to the forum, Seeing yer pit on the table reminded me of something i saw at a competition one time, a guy had a whole farm of those old smokey's that he used for the comp. He had added angle legs to them so they were all up at a comfortable height.
