Did my first "smoke" in 1971 in HI using a RUDS(REAL UGLY DRUM SMOKER) . Both ends removed on a 55 gal drum set over a kiawe (mesquite) fire. Lower end was propped up by pieces of wood. Talk about ugly but it worked!!! That was my only previous experiece cooking "low-slow"...
