Newbie from Bellevue Washington

Postby bellevueduck » Tue Aug 28, 2018 9:17 am

Hello All

Bought a Traeger Silverton at Costco. Coming off of propane Weber. Am experienced cook but a bit intimidated with pellet based smoking techniques.
My Plan is to BBQ during our rainy season..... Even Build a Pergola to stay out of the rain.

Have done 3 meals so far. Smoked corn, veggies and hamburgers..

The Traeger had some temperature variance last night. Started in smoke mode for 10 minutes and turned up to 350.. It went up to 410. I opened lid, temp went down and then stabilized around the 350 range.

Ready to try out a brisket. I’m seeing 10-12 hour recipies in smoke mode/225. Want to make sure that the temp stays consistent if I’m not watching it.

Any suggestions for a newbie?

Built Pergola last week with outlet for electrical. Will stay out of the rain while mastering bbq.

Newbie from Bellevue Washington

Postby PinoyPitmaster » Tue Aug 28, 2018 1:25 pm

Welcome

I have a Green Mountain Grill GMG. I experience the temps will fluctuate but stay around the temp set. The fan blowing will eventually stabilize temps. If not on my pellet grill i have ability to adjust temp baseline maybe treager does too?

You will need separate probe to compare pellet probe against
