New PitMaster in town!

Postby Skip2Ride » Wed Sep 05, 2018 3:06 pm

Howdy everybody, my name is Daniel, and I was born and raised in Houston and moved to Austin, Texas 3 years ago. I have been smoking/grilling since my high school days. Now, I am in the market to buy my first Pellet grill and I have been eyeing on PitBoss Austin XL. If I plan on buying Pitboss from Walmart, should I get the Warranty 3 or 4 years? Or no Warranty needed? Well, I am happy to find this forum with a lot of information. It was time for me to stop lurking and sign up! Thanks!

Welcome to the forum Daniel!

Leaning toward a pellet pit huh?
Go for it if you have any regrets blame it on OUP he'll be here soon.
Been using pellets for 20 years now but have also owned several stick burners during this period they are gone.
In my array of smoke makers I have a Pit Boss 820 for several years now and I love it. I also have a Cookshack Fast Eddy and a couple Traeger 075s they are good too but I usually just use the PB.
The only problem I've had with the PB is the hot rod (igniter) failed got replacement off Amazon for about $20 and replaced it myself......so I'd say no to the warranty extension. If it's gonna fail due to a factory flaw it'll show early.
I really haven't heard any real bad stories about PB except maybe for some doof that wanted it to fry hamburgers and chocolate chip cookies.

Howdy and Welcome, Daniel, :salut: :texas: I have a smaller Pit Boss 340 and I am very happy with it. If yours turns out to be a winner for you also then "I'll gladly take the blame" :laughing7:  :D

Welcome to the madness.

I swear by pellet grills. So darn easy to use. Eventually I'll try my hand at mastering stick burners though. Brand wise, I swear by my Rec-Tec. More expensive than a Pit Boss but very well made and fairly easy on pellet use. UOP turns out some great looking food on his Pit Boss also, so I can't say anything bad about them. Traeger used to be world class. Couldn't pay me to take a new one. They do have a great recipe section in their website though. Just lower the temps in most cases and cook till done via internal temperature.
