Cooper's BBQ, Llano TX

Postby Stan41 » Mon Feb 22, 2010 12:32 pm

Ate at Coopers at Llano Saturday. Arrived there about 2:00 PM. That's the best time to eat there because the line is not so long. Still my favorite BBQ place, even though I don't think it is as good as it was in 1960. Maybe my taster has changed. Pork ribs were delicious and I got a piece of sirloin that was just right.

I was there in December about 11.30 one day mid week and they had prime rib cut to size. Really nice and kept the fat for my pintos. Good stuff.

Love their Beef Ribs too.

My Father's Day Present

Postby Stan41 » Sun Jun 20, 2010 6:12 pm

Yesterday my Daughter took me and Mrs. to Cooper's at Llano. My favorite. I had sirloin and a slice of Prime Rib. Both were tender and delicious.
First time I ever went to Cooper's was in 1960. This makes 50 years for me. Loved it then - Love it now.

Stan, you seem to be getting a bit like me - when you start saying things like "when I went there 50 years ago" you know you're starting to put on a few years.

Cooper's in Llano is one of my all time favorites also and I do agree that, over the years, it has lost a little bit in the quality. We use to live about an hour from there and were on first name basis with the servers. I love good beans and their's always pleased my palate - - - - I can almost smell that Mesquite Smoke while driving down Hwy 29.

I lean more towards 3 Star Rednecks opinion on Coopers. I think it is certainly not what it once was and gets a free pass due to charm and location.

My wife and I went to Keller over the weekend for a wedding and stopped off at the Cooper's in Ft. Worth. We got brisket, pork ribs, and pork loin. It was all good, but I think the pork loin was the best.

Never ate at the one in Llano, but I do frequently eat at the one in New Braunfels, Pork chop and Pork loin by far are the best meats there! Oh and dont forget about the cobbler!

I grew up eating at the original Coopers in Mason (it's still there), so it will always be a favorite of mine. Matter of fact, when I was a kid, we lived in the DFW area and would drive to visit the grandparents in Mason, my dad would promise me and my sisters if we are good in the car during the trip that he would drive thru the BBQ smoke at Coopers. So we would roll down our windows and he would make a few passes thru it and then stop to buy BBQ. Found out later, that he had a agreement with his parents to always stop and buy some BBQ. Great Times!
