Best BBQ in Waco area
My vote has to go for Rusty Star. I eat at this place several times per month and, in my opinion, it's the best 'que in Waco by a long shot. I usually go for the brisket and sausage but went with the spare ribs this past time and was really impressed. I also really like their potato salad.
I may have to head over there tomorrow.

i had a gut pack yesterday at the Pat Green concert. Veteks and rusty star are about the same, save the drive and eat just a block from campus.
sadly, there really isn't not great Q in Waco.
I understand the road side stand on Waco drive and 10th or so is very good, but I've not been there. i have a hard time paying for what I can do better.

I've had many gutpacks in my life, but that's not BBQ to me. That's a frito pie with brisket and sausage mixed in.
Although the Gutpack is a great, great thing and I had plenty of em in college, I'm not fond of anything else that Vitek's does really.
I think the Rusty Star has their own gutpack variation, but I have no tried it. Their 'que on the other hand, is far superior across the board in my opinion. Outside of it, I've never been impressed with any other bbq in Waco. Tony's and Jaspers are both good, but I just can't get over the fact that the boil the meat, dutch oven style.

he did? interesting. I assumed it was a health dept ordered remodel (no reason to assume that,as I've never been in there, I just did)
Haven't been to the "new" Viteks or any of the East Waco spots (other than DeMaria's)
Rusty Star is pretty decent for commercial bbq, better than anything else I've tried here.

I went to Baylor back in the late 90's and they didn't have much of a BBQ market. We just ate at George's all the time....beer always seemed to be colder there. We actually hit up George's on the way to Meridian last year and the beer was still pretty darn cold.

I haven't found good "Q" in Waco either.
We always end up at Hooters or Red Lobster.

Full Custom Gospel BBQ has a Waco section among their reviews. Sounds like some of you need to get caught up.
I was out toward Clifton and tried to visit the Rusty Star but it was closed on a Saturdy Night??
