Stanley's BBQ, Tyler TX
Took the kids to the zoo the other day and decided to try Stanleys again to see what all the hype was about. I got a 4 meat sampler, sausage, brisket, ribs, pulled pork.
Considering these ribs are suppose to be best in Texas I was not impressed. They were good, a different flavor, heavy on cumin (I think), but I've had better. No bark/crust, instead it looks liked a paste, like they've been steaming in foil too long. Brisket and sausage was great. A meat market down the road makes their sausage, pulled pork was bland.

Just playing devil's advocate, they may be able to make some of the best ribs in the state, but to make food to feed to a steady flow of people on a daily basis may just turn out mediocre results. I wouldn't expect it to be what some cooking team worked all day to turn in for judging. With that said, I personally have not eaten there.

I have ate here a bunch and will tell you that the ribs are inconsistent, I've had some really good and not so. But they have a sandwich called the brother-in-law that has chopped beef and sausage that is great. I add slaw on it and love it!

Look like the ribs were sitting in the oven to long.

yea they sure did. This place won best ribs in Texas at, I think, the tx BBQ festival. People around here rave about em, but theres nothing special about them.

Re: Stanley's in Tyler
Those ribs look way overcooked, and that's coming from the guy guilty of cooking his longer than probably anybody on here... if you can tap the bone on the plate and the meat falls off, way overdone. These look like that. Sausage looks ok.

Went there on Friday. Had brisket and ribs. It was OK, but in my opinion it didn't live up to the hype.

Funny how opinions can be so different as you can see from my review below.
So we went to Tyler and tried Stanley’s Famous BBQ, a top 10 on the Tx Monthly BBQ list. Very cool bbq atmosphere with a very cool patio. I would love to go back on a night they have a band and I don’t have a kid. We split the signature Mother Clucker (boneless chicken thigh, candied bacon, mayo, pepper jack and a fried egg on a jalapeño roll. FANTASTIC!! The sandwich was worth the trip alone to Stanley’s but now onto the BBQ. I ordered three meats, brisket ribs and sausage for the rest of us to split. Brisket to me was ok, but my wife said it was her favorite part of the meal. It was cooked to perfection and very moist and tender I just wasn’t a fan of their rub I guess. The ribs were fantastic, not over rubbed and let the meat stand on its own. I however love sauce on my ribs and it was the perfect combination of sweet and heat. The sausage was good, but not any better than anything you can buy at your local grocer. I will be back!!

Re: Stanley's BBQ, Tyler TX
Thanks for the review. When we get moved, Tyler will probably be our monthly grocery stop, so we'll have to swing by Stanley's.
