Fiorelle's Jack Stack, Kansas City MO

Postby SWMO-Tom » Sat Oct 06, 2012 9:02 pm

Just had dinner at Fiorelle's Jack Stack BBQ in KC. Ribs were good, brisket was forgetable.
Another reason to fire up the smoker at home.

I have eaten there many times and always felt like their food was good but not anything better. Onion rings are good.

Was there about a month ago with a large group the night before a wedding.

Thought the bone in prime rib was mightyfine and can't recall the sides but they were good as well
Ribs -ok
Brisket - disappointing
Burnt ends - inedible

Otherwise a nice bar, good service, and good company made for an enjoyable evening.

Glad you posted this, I've been asking for recommendations from people in the KC area on BBQ places to try up there and several recommended Jack Stack....

Anybody here have any recommendations on the best BBQ place to go in KC?

Don’t get me wrong, Jack Stack is a Very nice restaurant with a lot on its menu. It was crowded at 5:30 on a Saturday with a half hour wait so they must be doing something right. The ribs were very good, probably the best I have had in a restaurant since Angelo’s in FW (before Angelo passed away). The chicken looked good and if I though I would have had room for them I would have gotten the stack of onion rings for an appetizer. But for me bbq is brisket and I wouldn’t have walked across the street for it if that was all they had.

I agree with Tom in that Jack Stack is not a bad place just not great. To me it is comparable to KC Masterpiece.
Next trip to KC I want to try Gates BBQ.
For eating place to recommend I'd say the Hereford House, It is not BBQ it is a steak house but the times I've been there it was really good.
The original Smoke Stack in Waldo was pretty good too but it closed and is now called "The Stack" don't know how it is today.

here's a story about gates bbq. i went there during the last big twelve basketball tournament. when i got in i asked the lady taking my orders what's gates specialty. she answered what do you mean. i told her some have great ribs and others brisket. she said then ours is chicken wings.

Best thing I had at Jack Stack was the Grilled Jumbo Shrimp appetizer.

The burnt ends probably wouldn't have been bad, had they not been smothered in that awful sauce. KC BBQ sauce is not for me.

When I was at jacks stacks I had the ribs and thought they were pretty good, my buddy wasn't thrilled with the brisket.. But over all a good spot to go. Like papa tom said, Hereford House was really good too!

I stopped in for lunch a few weeks back. Pulled pork was flavorful, but a little dry. I did really like the baked beans the best. Not the best that I've had, but was pretty good. Their lunch special was a PP sandwich around 7-8 oz. Pretty filling.

If you are in the KC area, and looking for good BBQ, try Hayward's.

The best in the KC area is Porky's in Grain Valley,Mo Hands Down.... It's only open Friday thru Sunday and they serve until it's gone each day.... It's Freshly cooked food and not flash cooked.

If you make it there you will swear by it.
