Re: Attempted to eat at Pecan Lodge for lunch today

Postby Boots » Sun Mar 17, 2013 6:59 am

I think there was a bunch of stuff going on downtown this weekend too, the new Ross "elephant ears" Perot museum is drawing big crowds on the week days, and huge crowds on the weekends, so I think this is where a lot of folks come in. Since my office is downtown, I sometimes slip over to Justin's place Thursdays for lunch. If you want a decent place in line, you gotta get there about 10:30 and line up. By the time he opens (11?) there's usually about 50 people in line, even on a Thursday.

Congrats to Justin, it's a good problem to have.

Thx guys. It looks like I'll just be going to Babbs for lunch if I want bbq. I can't take a two hour lunch break. That's unfortunate.

If Babb's is Plan B, no need for a Plan C.

I attended the Behind The Pit Dinner at Pecan Lodge tonight. It was a great night filled with good BBQ, cold beer and good conversation. Only 50 tickets were sold so there was no wait. It was a real nice evening for the wife and I. Justin, his wife, BBQ Snob & team were all excellent host.

Nice, so the million dollar question, is the food good enough to stand in line for an hour?

Dangit, I was really hoping you would say no. I work a mile down the road from Pecan Lodge and I've yet to try it. Guess I'm just going to have to some day soon.

We were curious. Are the lines as long during the week as they are on weekends? We thought we might be able to sneak down there on a Wednesday and try it

It helps if you can adjust your lunch hour a tad.
Wednesday is always a good bet & bad weather seems to slow people down.

Texas Monthly Behind The Pit Dinner

According to the signage posted around the PL they just recently started opening on Wednesday so that's probably a good day.

A guy I work with went last Thursday. He was in line at 10:15 and had food by 11:05. That's not a bad turnaround.

Definitely worth it. Brisket is closest thing to competition caliber Round here. I'm probably going tomorrow.

Texas Monthly Behind The Pit Dinner

An interesting tidbit provided by Daniel Vaughn last night.

Some of the other restaurants in the shed got liquor license just so they could sell beer to people waiting in line for Pecan Lodge.

I found that both genius and humorous.

What is their cooking style...low and slow or hot and fast...I think most of the central tx joints are cooking hotter.
