Original Stubbs BBQ

Postby Raider18 » Sat Oct 04, 2014 10:56 pm

Went to the monument in Lubbock of the original Stubbs. May not have been the best bbq, but the story of my two favorite things (BBQ and music) coming together is awesome. All that is left is the foundation and a statue.

When in Lubbock, the Cast Iron Skillet is my place of choice for lunch, they are open for lunch only, the genre is home cooked food and pies, excellent food and service at a moderate price. Be sure and get there early before 11:30 if you want a parking spot and a table without waiting.... this place fill up fast to be so large, it is very popular.

True story. When I was young I worked for a vending company that had the jukebox and pool table at Stubbs. I got a call one Sunday morning I got a call from Stubbs to fix the pool I went down and pulled and onion out of the ball return. Ask Stubbs WFT is this. He explained the Joe Ely and Tom T hall were playing pool after hours and use and onion for a Q-ball. Six month later Tom T hall release a record about his eight ball game at Stubbs with Joe Ely and using for a onion Q-ball. I laughed my butt off when I heard the old story tellers song cuz I knew it was true!

Stubbs was a great guy pretty good Q but famous for promoting GOOD west Texas music and drinking beer.

That's an awesome story! I love the Stubbs history and story. Have the book. From what I gather, he was a helluva man. I'm sure he's still Q'n it up in heaven!

Great story westex thanks for sharing. Tom T was one of the great ones of all time.

Faster horses
Younger women
Older whiskey
More money

Bobby: "No."
Hank: "Well, there's really no wrong way to do it."
