Tried that Alabama white sauce

Postby bsooner75 » Sun Jul 19, 2015 7:52 am

Recently vacationed in Gulf Shores. At lunch one day we decided to give the oysters and shrimp a rest. Looked up some reviews on a place called Moe's Original in orange beach.

I was pleased to see the don't even try beef. If they did I was going to force myself to try some and probably not like it.

Got a chuckle out of the large print on the chalk board stating boldly "All Meats Are Sauces". Guess they got tired of us visiting Texans asking?

That Alabama White Sauce. It's a mayo based substance they put on chicken. It goes on top of another sauce that tasted similar to Salt Lick sauce. On the chicken it seemed to work. I wouldn't crave it but I liked it when they did it. They serve a little cup on the side, didn't care for it by itself.

The rest of the Q was good as well. Really liked the ribs and hot wings. Pulled pork fell a little flat but wasn't bad.

Anybody know why they have a bowling ball in a trash can in the bathroom?

Reckon they ASSUME everybody is gonna love their sauce or wants it :banghead: I be inclined to ask what they are trying to cover up :laughing7:
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.

I just kinda chuckled and went with the when in Rome mentality. At least they didn't overdue it.

Ingredients
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup water
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon prepared horseradish
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 tablespoon sugar

Sounds more like a salad dressing than a meat topping.

You're right sawbones. My aunt makes a 7 layer salad & the dressing is very similar.

Like I said. I'd eat it again because it worked they way they did it. I wouldn't crave it or fix it for myself.

I kept seeing it on TV and ordered some Big Bob Gibsons white sauce from Amazon. It's pretty good on chicken but like you, I don't just crave it. Could take it or leave it.

I'm like you. If I was in Alabama, I'd at least give it a try.

Looking at that stuff reminds me of that old Saturday Night Live skit, for a RonCo-like product: "New ' Shimmer ' is a floor wax AND a dessert topping !!"

From Moes Original BBQ Timeline -
Fall 2008 - Denver, CO
Moe’s Original Bar-B-Que & Bowling is the brainchild of Steve Schalk and MOB. Eight lanes of bowling, a stage for live entertainment, and a full restaurant and bar allows for lots of moving pieces to keep us all on our toes. It’s great for private parties and events too!
