Smitty's in Lockhart, Texas

Postby tex_toby » Sun Jul 26, 2015 9:47 pm

We were passing through Lockhart today and stopped in at Smitty's to give it a try. Ordered a couple pounds of spare ribs and a link of jalapeño sausage. The ribs had good flavor, but had a bit too much tug for my liking. The sausage was good, but was pretty spicy and could have used some cheese. Also had beans and potato salad, both of which I thought were good. Overall, I left full and happy.

Nice pictures, Toby. Too much tug? Usually I find commercial ribs falling off of the bone. Lots of tug? Smitty's is ranked #2 behind Black's. We stopped by Black's but they had a two block line. I don't do lines.

Had a couple visiting from about a month ago. They were here for two weeks and we did South Texas on crack including a ride up 183 and a stop at Smitty's to sample some Texas Q. They were impressed.

Too much tug and I was digging ribs out of my teeth for the next few hours. :dont:

As for Blacks, we stopped in there the last time through. Killer beef ribs at that place. Yep, the line was long (1 hr wait), but it was fathers day right at lunchtime.

good pictures, been there several times, before I learned to cook my own, still tuning my sausage recipe so I can emulate the famed "Lockhart" sausage...
