Well me and Ed went to the annual IBCA meeting in Austin this past Saturday and afterward we decided to hit Blacks in Lockhart. We got there around 4 o clock, 5 minute wait to the front of the line, I wanted to try the famed beef rib, got a slice of brisket, ring of garlic sausage, and then a pork spare rib along with a side of tater salad, cornbread roll and some sweet tea. Ed got some brisket, baby backs and some jalapeno cheese sausage. I shared my beef rib with Ed and we both agreed it was some of the best meat we have ever purchased, just melted in your mouth. The sausage was also great, I preferred the garlic with that slight crisp casing, both were some of the best we have ever had at a BBQ joint. The brisket was good but lacked flavor in my opinion and we both agreed it was so so average. My spare rib was cooked just right, nice tug and a mild flavor, added a lil sauce which is real good as well. Great atmosphere and we had a lil celebration as well, it was Kent Black birthday and the entire restaurant sang him Happy Birthday and he sliced his birthday cake and personally delivered it to every table.Overall it was a great day, we usually do not go out out for Que but we will be back for the ribs and sausage next time we are down that way.
What a BBQ joint is supposed to look like!
Had a crown and coke for lunch at the VFW ,so I was ready for it. It was a long ride home though!
Singing Happy Birthday to Mr. Black.

Couldn't agree more with this post!! Beef rib is heaven, brisket is better than most but nothing spectacular and the atmosphere is what bbq is about! Kent was awesome on our visit as well. Not my favorite bbq but my favorite bbq joint to visit.

Okay, I officially hate you for showing all of those pictures of Black's. I've been by there twice, both times with at least one hour lines. I don't do long lines. Good to know the beef rib is really good -- I'll make it one day.
