Chaps Pit Beef Baltimore Maryland
Good morning all,
I'm a new guy on here far from Texas, and finding a true BBQ up here in the poconos in Pa is a chore in itself. A few years ago we happily greeted the return of my nephew who is in the air force in Baltimore . The next day on the way home, my brother in law told us about this place called Chaps Pit Beef just off the highway.
I've been hooked ever since, I can still smell it now.
Has anyone on this forum been here ? If so, how does it compare to true Texas BBQ?
Looks like a Texas road trip may be in order

I've been there, Chaps is not Barbecue, it's Pit Beef. No smoke, but cooked over charcoal, hot and fast. While good in its own right, it's no Barbecue.

Hey there ChileFarmer...
Appreciate the welcome on here.
I actually picked up an Acorn kamado last week.Just seasoned the grates the other night but haven't had the opportunity to see what it can do. I've heard nothing but great things so we will see.
Hmmm..., I do know it definitely puts out smoke tho...

Hello Raider18,
That is Great to hear you say that.
It's the first real coal smoker we've bought.
We have been using a tabletop electric smoker and we were completely shocked on how good our first brisket point came out in it.( pic below )
Now that we have this, we can't even begin to imagine the outcome !

Hi ESNeifeld,
I wasn't completely sure how it was classified because they advertise pit beef BBQ and I did notice that the food lacked a smoke flavor.
I still can't drive by without drooling first, then stopping lol

I saw where you said "coal" as I am always learning, and knowing that "coal" is or was used for heat in your area, did you mean char coal or really coal? I have never seen any one cook on coal but it might just be a possibility, I always heard it burned hot...just curious

No to coal unless you like your Q to taste like your carberator.
