Because there are ALOT of states that don't have a high bar set for good Q like Texas, or the Carolinas unfortunately.
It's one of those things where people that don't know what to look for go to certain places thinking it's really good until someone comes along and shows them different.
I've had Dickey's once up here in PA long ago and never went back. Im a firm believer in giving someone a shot, I just didn't really care for it to go again. It wasn't Awful, but it wasn't great either.
Luckily and thankfully, a place called Mission BBQ opened up in Allentown.
This place is definitely a Cut Above of any other place I've eaten BBQ in Jersey, New York and Pa...

I agree with your question, Marvda, and have been wondering that ever since "the first and only time" I ever ate there :whiteflag: :banghead: :dont: :?:

We had a dickies here for a couple years. I kept seeing their name in our local business journal delinquent back taxes section. They shut down bout a year ago.
Got a Olive garden just South of me, they've been there for 10 years or better. Ive never stepped foot in there.

We've got a few "so called" BBQ joints around here but.....I never see or smell any smoke coming out of the establishments. :dont:
I guess they can call it bbq by throwing bbq sauce on a hunk of meat that comes out of a oven. :whiteflag:

BTW ... We've got a Popeyes coming to town. First one in our area, any reviews :?:

Personally, I like Popeyes. Not as good as home, but I like it better than KFC or Church's

We have ( Cluck You University ) up here, pretty good wings i must say say !
We have Popeyes as well, but never been in one yet. KFC seems hit or miss. EXCELLENT place up in North Jersey in Mahwah, called ( The Chicken & Rib Crib...
They have a College very close that just about owns Stock in the company.
College kids with ( the munchies ) :):) like to order from there constantly.

I used to drive the 75 minutes each way for thier Chicken, but considering they are only Take Out, we used to get our grub and hit the Park down the road and Mangia Mangia after grabbing a picnic table :)

Ahh, good times !

KFC used to be good years ago. Something changed. It is a total turnoff for me now. I'll take Chick Fil A, or Popeye's.

the KFC's around here are more like Chicken Flavored GREASE and if you like the feeling of thinking you just swallowed a tblsp of Crisco then "Bone Apple Tight"

Yeah, I don't get it guys ....
It's frustrating !
Sometimes I think I know what's wrong, but then I think to myself..

It can't be this simple, but maybe it is ??

I swear that they do 1 of 2 things wrong when they fry thier chicken.

I think either, the Oil is NOT hot enough ....
OR...
The oil is just too old and they try to stretch the oil further than it can possibly go, therefore the oil seeps into the breading and making it greasy ??

It's a shame cuz if had KFC one day that is killer, and a month later it's nothing but a grease sponge.

As for Chick Fill A ,
I will be a customer for life with them !
From the greeting, to to attitude, to the food and service to even the clean bathrooms..., That company takes pride in what they do imho.

How did we get on take out chicken? No matter, and this is just my opinion.

When Colonel Sanders died, so did his legacy. Everything there stinks.

Popeyes is hit or miss, portions considerably smaller than they used to be but decent flavor if early in the day.

Golden Chick has consistently good tenders, and the rolls are killer.

Chicken Express is good, especially the ones with the car hop service. Good fish too but you need to call ahead for it because they cook to order.

Lastly, there is a small chain in DFW called Lisa's chicken and rice that in my families opinion blows everyone else away for both taste, price, quality and size of pieces. We will drive past 10 others to get to one of them.
