BBQ sauce recipe question

Postby jbtx » Sun Jun 30, 2013 9:49 pm

I have been working on my own sauce. I am pretty close, but the recipes I have combined all call for apple cider vinegar. I do not like vinegar.

Would it hurt anything to sub apple juice or apple cider or cut the apple cider 50/50 or something like that? I figured it won't hurt, but thought I would ask around.

Yes you can sub, but realize the vinegar acts as a natural preservative. If your sauce is not acidic (enough) the shelf life will not be very long. Keep it refrigerated and make it fresh when you want some.

Switch to Red Wine vinegar it is less sharp and has a natural sweet quality that comes out in the presence of other flavors.
Never met a cow I didn't like with a little salt and pepper.

Or lemon or lime juice. Rice wine is fairly mellow also.
