Off The Wall BBQ Sauce

Postby DATsBBQ » Sat May 30, 2009 4:11 pm

While looking at my pantry I got an idea to make some BBQ sauce, while the ingredient list is a tad off the wall, it turned out pretty good. A little too hot the Mrs I'm sure, but oh well

I put the following in the blender:
1 clove garlic (quartered)
1/2 small onion (course chopped)
1 20oz can of fruit cocktail
4 Strawberries
1 Pickled jalapeno
1 TB Worsty
3 TB Lime juice
1/2 tsp Allspice
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
2 TB brown sugar
1 tsp Kosher salt
1 7oz can of Chipotle Salsa (from the Mexi mart)
1 tsp Liquid Smoke (hickory)

Pressed the puree button and let it rip for about a minute

Emptied into a stock pot, added:
1 cup of Rocky Mountain Tap Water
1/4 Wine (White Gren.)

Brought a boil, reduced to a simmer. In about an hour (I like it on thick side) removed from heat and let cool.

If you do, you might want to add the chipotle salsa in increments. That salsa isn't really salsa, more like pureed chipotles in adobo sauce. But if heat isn't an issue, just use the whole can. I added the strawberries cause they were in the fridge and needed to be used up. Went for the lime as the souring agent, well just stay in the theme (if there's one  ) but vinegar would work too.
