Chuck I think that apple mixed with some pecan or hickory would be great.

Go easy on the wood. Meatloaf will really soak up the smoke!

I used probably 1 fist size ... cumulative.

Well, here is the meatloaf. Made a 2 pounder and there is very little left over between 3 of us!

I used a mix of apple and pecan like suggested. Cooked for close to 2 hours.

Our son loved it! he couldn't stop talking about it. My wife and I both thought that it was good, but it just ain't Grandma's meatloaf. But we both went back for 2nd's! I would like to try it again, but ease up on the smoke some.

Course not. It's Chuck's. I sympathize. I have some recipes from my grands that just aren't right unless they're cooked a certain way.

Sounds like a qualified success to me. If nothing else, you know you can do it for a change of pace now and then.

Yum! Looks awesome! I learned my lesson about fatties that can soak up too much smoke!
I'm glad you got to try it!
