Temp probe cleaning?

Postby Chasdev » Fri Jul 01, 2016 10:31 am

Anybody think cleaning temp probe's worthwhile, AND if so, what works?
I started out cleaning them but for the last half dozen cooks I've let them ride, and FWIW, when I was cleaning them, the only thing I found to work at all was/were MonkeyWipes..
I tried several soaps/detergents plus acetone and denatured alcohol with no luck.

Try using charcoal lighter fluid. Pour some on a rag and wipe the probe clean.

I always wipe them off with Clorox wipes right after I pull them out of the food. Then rinse the probe (not the wires) under hot water. Never had any issues getting them clean.

If you have baked on food on your probes mix up a vinegar/baking soda solution (2 parts vinegar- 1 part BS). Let the probe soak in the solution for 5-10 minutes. Then wipe clean and rinse.

I just run them across my armpit once or twice.. Works every time

Now who wants to come over for dinner ?!?! Lol

Seriously tho, I use alcohol wipes then hot soapy water on a napkin.
Store it away and rinse before using again. Just at all costs, keep all liquids away from the plastic/wire area or you will think ur drunk while reading the temps...

Sorry, I should have stated that the probes are cooking chamber probes so they are covered with thick smoke residue..

Vinegar/Baking Soda solution. Blue Dawn also works with a Scotch-Brite scrub pad.
