looking for sauce similar to Bone Suckin' brand

Postby SamsButcherShop » Thu Jun 08, 2017 7:26 pm

Greetings folks. I really liked Bone Suckin' sauce because it had a nice, mild flavor that did not dominate what you put it on. Unfortunately they changed their recipe and I found the new sauce to be very strong and similar to the barbecue sauces in the supermarket. It could almost pass for ketchup with additional flavorings. I thought that maybe I just got a bad batch but I talked to a rep from the company today and she confirmed that they did change their recipe. Do you have any suggestions for sauces that are similar to the old Bone Suckin' sauce? Btw, it really blows my mind that they would mess with a good thing.

I can't comment on the old Bone Suckin, but I would suggest trying out SuckleBusters.

I've been using their stuff pretty much exclusively for quite a while. Definitely top notch.

If you are looking for thin and sweet go with The Sucklebusters Honey Sauce. It's not lock jaw sweet but perfect for chicken and pork.

It's a done deal, I just placed the order. The peach bbq sauce looks interesting too.

Btw, on their website they describe their original sauce as being "sweet" while the honey is "super sweet". I didnt really want "super sweet" so is that description accurate? Guess its just a matter of opinion too.

It's tough to say.

For my palate, I wouldn't say that the original is sweet. There is a hint of sweet, but not enough to be a major component for my taste.

Like Bsooner said, the honey is sweet, but not so sweet that you get lock jaw.

Thanks again, sounds like we're on the same page with the sweetness factor.

Sounds good. Fwiw, the rep at Bone Suckin' said the major change involved using "clean" ingredients as in Non-GMO, all natural, etc. I can't imagine why that would alter the flavor and consistency so much as to go from a light sauce to a very concentrated one. I know they werent using high fructose syrup in their old version since they advertised that fact, so that wouldnt explain the difference. The best I can figure is they made the change to accommodate WholeFoods who is one of their major corporate accounts. I think they made a huge miscalculation and will lose a big chunk of their old customer base.

it sounds to me like another clueless company tripping over themselves to cater to a handful of "fringe" customers while ignoring their base. Unfortunately, they'll learn their mistake the hard way.
