Sweet gum tree wood

Postby rus_bro » Sun Jun 11, 2017 8:35 pm

Got the kid a playset for the back yard which I didn't really plan well. So had to break out the axe and some rope to take down a couple of medium sized sweet gum trees. I saved about 12, 14 z"portions on the trunk for drying before I got rid of the rest of the tree.

Obvious question on the table: is the wood amy good for smoking? I'm thinking it would be close top a maple wood, but that is purely a guess.

A big NO! They take forever to dry, and trying to burn in a wood stove sucks, providing little heat.

A NO from me also - - - - only tried it in a Fireplace type stove for heating the house and ended up throwing it away. :whiteflag:

Thanks for the info boys. I guess I'll just toss it and find an excuse to take an oak tree down.:)
