My First Smoke!

Postby Arizona_Hunter » Fri Jul 07, 2017 2:49 pm

I had been watching YouTube video after YouTube video after getting my Oklahoma Joes smoker.watching videos about recipes and mods.i did most of the modifications wether i need to or not it was fun adding to it.It was definitely time to smoke! I decided to make some St Louis Style Ribs with the 3-2-1 method. They came out great! I used kingsford charcoal and mesquite wood.spritzed with Apple juice every hour. I just used the Famous Dave's dry rub and also famous Dave's bbq sauce.next time gona try different rub and sauce but I was just focused on the smoking for my first time.im hooked now!
Happy smoking! Nick from AZ

Welcome and congrats on a great first smoke! I also use an OK Joe and have only 2 mods done. The exhaust extension, and lid seals. Holds really even temps but still burns through wood or charcoal like an old diesel through oil. I go through 16 lbs of charcoal in 2 chicken or rib cooks, or about a bag and a half for a brisket or pork butt.

Welcome Nick. Ribs look nice. Your thought process is right on with nailing the cook first then tweaking flavors later.
