Cleaning the smoker.

I have an offset that gets used maybe 3 or 4 times a month and it is only a few months old.
I have cleaned it a couple times and use foil catch pans to minimize the mess. It is always kept inside my garage.
My question is, how often does one clean there smoker? Last time I used my pressure washer on a low setting and wiped it all down, then did a mild re-seasoning.
Anyone share there cleaning methods and frequency?
Thanks.

I will clean the firebox after every cook or every other. The rest of it not too often and never will I pressure wash it.

Pressure wash was a strong word....not enough pressure to remove any of my seasoning.

I've had my offset for 20 years. I clean out the ashes from the firebox every cook. I drain the hot grease via my drain valve. I wire brush and spray the racks if they get funky. That's it. No need to do more. BTW, my offset never sees fish.

Yes, we all take a jab at each other here on the forum. It's fun, and how most of us were raised. To answer your question, I never clean mine other than the grates, drain after each cook while it is hot and it flows easily, and wipe down any creosote "crumbles" that seem to accumulate. Once the fire box is cool, like the next day I empty it and spray a little veg oil to restrict rust. Since it it a reverse flow I will pull the tuning chamber out about every six months and scrape it clean as well. Done.

immediately after every cook while the coal is still hot, I'll spray down the grates and scrub clean. and also rinse out all the grease and drain it. then I can close the cook chamber and let the heat dry it out.

ashes are emptied out next day or two

I really don't know when I'll cook next so I want it clean for the next time

I'm a clean freak!!!
I agree about using your pressure washer
low pressure on the inside of the smoke chamber
blast the shoot out of the grates!!
religiously clean the fire box
spray fresh Rust-O-Leum on the outside anytime the black even looks dull
the only issue is cleaning the inside of the smoke chamber
and i HATE creosote build up !!
with a low pressure blast you will keep it clean and not have any affect on the seasoning!!!
and the cleaner you keep and protect the fire box, the longer it will last!

I normally cook on a 22"OldSmokey
which is aluminized 24gauge sheet metal
if you don't clean them after every cook and cover them they won't last 2 years
my current one is 8 years old and as good as new!
I clean it religiously the next day after every single cook!

SGT.KROHN!!
