Mold issue

Postby JustinCouch » Mon Feb 19, 2018 5:36 pm

I haven't used the offset in a while now. I walked past it today and opened the lid. Oh no! Mold! The grill grates are covered with green mold. I guess I need to wash the grates real good and build a big hot fire. Does that sound about right? I would really like to cook a ham this weekend so I got to get on the ball. I will start the clean Saturday and cook Sunday.

A weed burner will do wonders on those grates and yes a good hot fire should get it

Good place to burn up some of that "junk" wood, limbs, pine cones and etc - - - - HOWEVER, once you git'er roaring, you and the Missus must hold hands and walk around it singing Kum Ba Ya :D

Yes big fire and re season....in the winter months when my off set gets not as much use....I always light a bit of charcoal...usually the small scraps of charcoal at the bottom of the bag...or some scrap wood as already mentioned just to keep all the dampness and moisture from causing the mold problem from the greasy racks.....never had a mold issue in it.....but I do stay on top of it......burn some scrap wood....or use a weedburner if you have one.

Hit with the weed burner then rinse them with water heat and re-season.
