Has anyone used the Western brand charcoal from Walmart? They have a 30lb bag for $9.99. I was thinking about trying it, but I don't want to make a big mistake. I've tried their Backyard Grill (or whatever it's called) and it sucked HUGE eggs.

Here's a link to a previous Thread talking about it.

Re: Western brand charcoal
I like it better than royal oak, which seems to be one of the only other decent lump around me.
Burns hot and slow. Pieces are usually large, occasionally you get a bag that has smaller sizes.
It is the only lump I buy locally.

Have used it many times. I like it. Royal Oak, B&B, Western - all good.

Re: Western brand charcoal
I have a long list I prefer over Western. Like Cowboy, I've found some pretty bad trash in it. Nails, finished wood. In Cowboy a buddy of mine even found a pair of scissors.
B&B is consistently good, depending on the flavor you buy and readily available. I think Royal Oak is actually pretty good stuff too. Not the best, but solid. Best I've found is the Hasty Bake stuff and Ozark Oak (which was discontinued until recently, when Harps grocery stores starting private labeling the recipe - its produced by Royal Oak).
