Lump charcoal at United stores

Our local United store is carrying Open Nature all hardwood lump. 20# bag for $10.95. Great buy but it sucks.
I was out of my go to lump so got a bag to cook some steaks. Starts fine burns hot but stinks, nothing like most lump. I believe the wood is scrap oak(?) from cabinet shops. I walked by the my Primo the next morning and it flat out stunk. So I loaded it with Rockwood lump and hickory split cut down and took it to 650--675 degrees and let it settle back to 350 gonna let it burn till it goes out tonight.
