Sunday night is family night here, I cook for everybody, but we've had really hot days lately, 28 to 32 deg c so we decided to do the unusual, text every one and we met at a local reserve, with water, ducks, swans etc and a big playground for the kids. Set up under big willow trees, it was awesome, took kids water pistols and 10 litres of water for refilling. Highly recommend doing something different to dinner at home. Sausages and bread , doesn't get more simple. As a kid we never did anything like that. Our grandkids are spoilt.

dont tell the kids, and load your pistol with ice water... that is a lot of fun especially on the first few you hit with it...

Re: BBQ with grandkids
I would imagine I'm probably the youngest granddad on the forum here; I'm 40 as of this past October. I use that to my advantage. Big time!! Spoil em good then send em back to the parents. Lol! Sounds like y'all had a blast.

Back when, Harlee, was young I had a Teeshirt that said "Good Grandparents fill their Grand Babies up with Sugar and send them Home"
