Best brand or seller of pork shoulder/butt?

Postby Chasdev » Fri Mar 08, 2019 3:54 pm

Where do central Texas comp champs buy pork butt?
Is the same deal as brisket where the best meat comes from specialty suppliers at a premium price?
I'm interested in something better than what HEB offers.

There's only a couple packers available anyways so unless it's from Billy Bob's prime pig farm, you'll find the same pork across the board, regardless of retailer.

That's funny. My brother raises Berks. Lol! Best pork I've ever eaten. I usually pay for a whole pig what SRF is asking for that shoulder though.

Don't know if you have BJ's in Texas, (older version of Costco), but I get very good Boston butts there. Just have to be mindful of expiration dates, they push sell be date as far as they can. Another place is GFS, Gordon Food Service). They sell a two pack, boneless and bone in for a very good price! Marbling looks awesome. If you have freezer space, that's the way to go, IMHO. :chef:

I buy my butts from BJ's here in NJ. No problems at all with them. I think they're Smithfield.
