What are you cooking for Easter? Anyone tried Kurobuta Ham?

Postby Gigemlaw » Thu Apr 04, 2019 11:57 am

I'd like to do something different for Easter this year but I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. SRF sent me this email about their Kurobuta hams - typically I'd say paying $95 bucks for a 6lb ham is ridiculous. Anyone ever tried one of these or something similar?

Berkshire is very good pork. My brother raises them. As to pay 95 dollars for a 6 lb ham.. Ummm.. Nope.. I paid 150 for a whole hog; 360 lbs worth. Lol. They are making a larger breakthrough now as they were not very well known that long ago (even though they've been available for a LONG time.)

We did a Berkshire butt once...pretty good, but it was a gift, so couldn't tell you what it cost.

Got Relatives coming from Arkansas and Colorado and I'm planning on cooking 4 racks of Baby Backs on the Pit Boss Pellet Pooper. Sides will be Coleslaw, Tater Salad, Pintos and who knows what else. It's my first time to do that much at once on the Pit Boss so I'll probably be a busy O.F. starting early Saturday morning. :texas:

Think I may do 2 racks that are sauce glazed and 2 that are Dry Ribs :dont:  :chef:

I'm doing a hot ham. With my glaze of apricot sauce bourbon honey grain mustard and maple syrup.

I'm tired of the winter so for the first time in many years we are staying home instead of going to the cabin this Easter.

Are planning to do my first leg of lamb on the grill with the rotisserie. We always have leg of lamb on the Easter evening, but never done it on the grill.

I will be cooking 5 briskets, 12 spatchcock chickens (pulled) and 25 lb of German sausage, with my 5 bean BBQ Baked Beans and Hawaiian rolls the day before Easter so I don't think I will feel like cooking for Easter. I am doing 2 cater jobs for birthdays. 1 for 50 people at 2pm and the other for 60 people at 6:30 pm. I guess I am a glutton for punishment. Lol

Joe, I'm with you.. I'm talking the wife into lamb for Easter. I think it kinda fits anyways, if you REALLY understand the holiday..

We'll be going with a ham. Sides are still in question, but probably some form of potato and a vejable or other.

Should just get a template for this because it's the same except for the Turkey at Thanksgiving:

Chicken and Dumplings
Chicken and Dressing
Ham
Purple Hull Peas
Mashed Potatoes
Cream Corn casserole
Green Bean Casserole
Deviled Eggs
Home made Hot Yeast Rolls
Fruit salad
Chocolate Pie
Pecan Pie
Sweet Tea
